George Alex, an Arizona native, started his running career in high school, but it did not begin in a way destined for success. He was far from his full potential and was heading down a destructive life path. His coach, though, saw the potential within him and called out the negative behavior and told George he could be great if he wanted to be. This was a turning point in his life and 10 years later he would be racing in the Olympic Trials.

George attended college at Paradise Valley Community College where he set school records in the 1,500m and 5,000m. Building a solid foundation he moved into the next chapter of his athletic journey where he competed for the University of Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner). This is where he really started to progress as an athlete setting three school records (Mile 3:58.76, 3k 7:52, and 5k 13:35) and helped the Sooner to two top 6 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.  Further successes would come for George while in college, including winning 3 Big-12 titles and making the 2012 US Olympic trials finals in the 5,000m.

After graduating from Oklahoma, he moved to Blowing Rock, North Carolina and ran professionally.  There, he transitioned to road racing and PR’d in the 1/2 marathon with a time of 62:53.

George is currently retired from professional running and transitioning to a coaching role. He is passionate about helping others achieve their potential in running and in life. Just as a coach turned the trajectory of his life, George is energized to have the same positive impact on others.
