Meet Reuben

Reuben Mosip hails from Central Rift Valley (Kenya), is one of 10 siblings and the only one in his family that competes professionally in running.  While at Emining Boys School, Reuben was inspired by other runners in his peer group to give running a try.  “It was not hard and felt good right away”, Reuben recalls.

It wasn’t long before Reuben caught the running bug and soon thereafter was selected as captain of the school’s running team. Reuben’s vision as a professional athlete was to first start out racing in the 5k and 10k, building up to his long-term goal of competing in the marathon.

In 2017, Reuben competed in his first 10k, a local race in Sokoto, which he finished in first place. It was after this race that Reuben knew firmly that he wanted to focus on running professionally as a career.  From here, the hard work and commitment to training and developing himself as a professional athlete began.

Fast forward to 2021 and the Tokyo Olympic pre trials in Nairobi (6,000’ elevation), Reuben would have his breakthrough race on the track in the 5,000m, recording a new personal best time of 13:34 (12:59 sea level translation).  In the short term, Reuben seeks to improve his 10k on the track and road.  He’s made a great start to this goal already, finishing 1st in the 2021 Flanigan’s Rockin’ Rib Run 10k and claiming 3rd in the 2022 Cooper River Bridge Run lowering his personal best time by 14 seconds to 28:28.

For the long-term, Reuben hopes to achieve success in the marathon and remain involved in running as a coach after retiring from competitive racing.
