Testimonials

Before working with Coach Tony, my PRs were 16:40 (5k), 1:16 (HM), and 2:49 (marathon). Seven months later, after a purposeful progression working from the mile -> 5k (PR of 15:45), -> HM (PR of 1:14) and finally the marathon, I ran 2:31:32 – an 18 minute PR and a breakthrough performance.

What changed weren’t just the times. Coach Tony brought structure, clarity, and intention to the training each week. He knew when to push, when to adjust, and how to help me train, recover, and show up ready on race day. I became stronger, more consistent, and more confident. The results speak for themselves, but the bigger impact is how he made me believe in what’s possible with the right training. I’m excited to keep building. If you’re serious about becoming the best runner you can be, from the mile to the marathon, I can’t recommend Coach Tony enough.

Working with Coach Tony opened my eyes to what a good coach can really help you accomplish. His workouts are well thought out, tailored to the individual, and specific enough that you always feel the benefits. During our time together, I hit big goals on both trails and roads — like winning the Rodeo Beach Rumble 8K, snagging a Dipsea Invitational spot on my debut, and knocking 7 minutes off my half marathon to drop under 80 minutes. I’ve seen firsthand his ability to work effectively with athletes of different skill levels and ages. His love for running shines through and he always brings an optimistic, structured approach that helps athletes reach their goals. If you’re looking for a coach who genuinely cares and knows how to get results, I’d wholeheartedly recommend Coach Tony!

Working with Tony has been a game-changer in my running journey. When we started together in September 2024, my goal was to break three hours in the marathon. Under his guidance, not only did I finally achieve that goal with a 2:59:44 finish at Mountains 2 Beach, but I also learned an incredible amount about training, racing, and managing the mental side of the sport.

Throughout the training cycle, Tony helped me hit PRs in a rainy and windy Kaiser HM (1:27:33), and the Napa Marathon (3:11:50) despite battling severe cramps in the late miles. What stands out most, though, is how Tony challenged me to keep going after that tough day at Napa. Just five weeks later, thanks to his belief in me, his strategy, and a sharp training block, I broke 3 hours and qualified for Boston 2026. I’ve taken more than 20 minutes off my marathon PR since working with Tony and gained a deeper understanding of training methodology that I’ll carry with me moving forward.

Tony has been my coach, friend, and manager since 2020. In that time we’ve experienced great success together – a Dipsea win in 2022, twice qualifying for Team USA in mountain running, and a 2:13 marathon debut, to name a few.

Tony’s best quality is his dedication to the athlete. I know I can always count on him to meet up for an early morning workout anywhere in Marin. He’s always available for a call and his passion for running is always evident – just don’t get him started about the MCTC Dipsea team for next year!

Tony brings the optimism and energy required for lofty goals and backs it up with technical expertise from years of coaching. While working with Tony, I set PRs in every distance from the 5k to the marathon: it’s hard to argue with those results. We worked our a***s off, and it paid off.

No matter what your goals are, Tony will develop a plan that works for YOU. Instead of “one-size-fits-all”, Tony takes care to explain the purpose of each workout, and if something is not working, he’ll find a way to get you to where you need to be. He embodies what a coaching relationship should be: a partnership working together to achieve a common dream. If you’re looking for a coach that’ll give you the tools you need top be a better runner, look no further.

For a long time, I dreamed of taking trail running seriously. I had some experience but I wanted to improve. Once I reached out to Tony, everything changed. His coaching took my training to a whole new level.

Tony’s efficient and effective training plans and his passion for running were crucial to my success. He didn’t just improve my running, he introduced me to an entire community of trail runners in Marin and San Francisco. His dedication to the sport and his dynamic coaching style make him one of the best advocates for trail running in the area. Tony’s ability to work with runners of all skill levels, ages, and goals is truly remarkable. Thank you, Tony, for helping me achieve my ultra running dreams and for fostering such a supportive community.

began training with MCTC and Coach Tony Scott in April 2021.  My goal was to qualify for the Boston Marathon and ultimately run a marathon in under three hours.  I knew both would be challenging but Coach Tony’s training program was exactly what I needed.  My workouts became more structured and my weekly mileage increased while staying healthy and injury-free.  Coach Tony was always available for questions and gave me immediate feedback on my workouts and races.  Coach Tony’s coaching experience and philosophy brought out the best in me as I have run five marathons with BQ times and ran the 2022 and 2023 Boston Marathon.  At the 2021 California International Marathon I ran my fastest 26.2 and broke 3 hours!

Under Coach Tony’s guidance I improved my times in the following: 1 mile (5:04 – 50 seconds PR), 5K (18:42 – 2 minute PR), 15K (1:02:38 – 6 minute PR), half marathon (1:26:18 – 4 minute PR) and marathon (2:58:05 – 18 minute PR).

I registered for the CIM with the goal of qualifying for my first Boston Marathon. I was introduced to coach Tony, who was honest, motivating, and ultimately the best support system to help me achieve my goals. My 12 hour shifts at work and a busy family life needed some good planning for me to achieve my goals, which Tony delivered on. His coaching approach, training tips and insights helped me clock a 39 minute PR en route to breaking 4 hours and BQing, both firsts for me! With coach Tony’s belief in me and my progress, I earned more than just a ticket to Boston, but the confidence that I can achieve anything as well.

Tony Scott is the best running coach you’ll find. His keen ability to shape a personal running program is at the highest level. I was able to slice over 13 minutes off my previous best half marathon time following Tony’s customized training plan. The training was hard but I stuck with it and all the hard work paid off! If you want to run stronger, better and faster, and feel great he’s the coach you need.

I first started working with coach Tony Scott during the summer of 2016 in preparation for my goal race that fall, the California International Marathon. Tony built a great training plan for me and instilled the mental resilience and physical toughness for me to get my marathon career back on track. I was able to record my second fastest marathon and fastest marathon in 3 1/2 years winning the 2016 California International Marathon!

In January, 2016 I approached Tony Scott with the idea of running a half marathon that spring. Up until then I had no prior experience with endurance sports. Tony’s passion for the sport was contagious and sparked a whole new lifestyle for me. Before starting on a training plan, Tony had me run a local 5k race, which I clocked 23:23. Under Tony’s training I have lowered my 5k PB to 17:30! MCTC dedicate an unbelievable amount of time to getting the best out of all their athletes. The training philosophy pushes you to your full potential while staying healthy and injury free.
