Meet Patrick

Patrick Wachter grew up in Richmond, VA, exploring many different sports as a child. Upon entering high school, Patrick shifted his focus to running Cross Country and Track, competing for the Maggie Walker Green Dragons under the coaching of Jim Holdren.

As a member of the Green Dragons, Patrick rose through the ranks of the Virginia 2A classification, accruing numerous All-State honors and being a member of a boys’ team that won six straight state team titles (Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track his junior and senior years).

In his senior year, Patrick was elected by his teammates to serve as a team captain helping guide the Walker boys to an undefeated season in Cross Country, culminating in a State meet where he was awarded All-State honors and the team scored just 26 points. That same year, Patrick also participated in the 2014 National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in Myrtle Beach, SC, where he earned Individual All-American honors as well as yet another team championship title.

Patrick then attended The College of William & Mary, where he competed as a part of the College’s club program, known as Team Blitz. He saw success in Cross Country, winning the Dashing Dukes Invitational and earning First-Team All-Region Honors at the NIRCA Mid-Atlantic Regional in 2019. On the track, he won the 5000m Indoors at the 2019 CNU Captains Invitational in a time of 15:57. Later that year, he ran a PR of 15:31 for 5000m outdoors on a cold and rainy day at the Colonial Relays.

The club format of Team Blitz allowed Patrick to venture onto the roads during his collegiate career, and venture he did, finishing 6th at the Colonial Half Marathon in both 2019 and 2020. His PR in the event comes from the 2019 edition, where he ran 1:12:50 for the hilly course. He placed 10th at the Collegiate Running Association 10k Road Race National Championship, finishing in a then-PR of 32:43.

Since leaving William & Mary, Patrick has taken to the trails, making his ultramarathon debut on a self-designed course through the hills of Berkeley. He finished in a time of 3:52:33 for the course, which included 4700+ ft of climbing. He joined MCTC in the fall of 2020 and has since lowered his 10k PR to a time of 32:38 during a time trial with Coach Tony Scott on the bike next to him. He then made an attempt at the FKT for the East Bay Skyline National Trail, a 32-mile route with 5000+ ft of vertical gain on the trails of the East Bay. Unfortunately, he was forced to withdraw due to complications from the heat after being on course record pace through 26 miles. He bounced back just a few weeks later with a win on the trails at the Bust the Banks Half-Marathon in his hometown of Richmond, VA. In the fall of 2021, Patrick smashed his half marathon PR by over 3 minutes clocking 1:09:44 with a top-10 finish in the Rock n Roll San Jose race.  He continued his form on the road debuting in the marathon at the CIM, clocking 2:27:02.
